The rohloff went to Germany and back in 7 days, so the single speed experiment didn’t last long. I liked it though so I’m considering my options for easy conversions, or maybe just one more bike …..

The expensive “never goes wrong” rohloff hub gear is in Fuldatal, the home of Rohloff as, well, it’s gone wrong. Doh!
So that I can can continue to use the bike, and not use the knackered old one I spent a tenner on an on-one single speed conversion kit. I’ve only ridden it up and down the street so far, but I am on the edge of being converted into a loony.

Dusk til Dawn was just as it said on the tin, except I finished our final lap at nearly 9am so quite a bit past dawn! 6th position meant an end to the run of podiums but we did 12 laps of an 11.7 mile circuit so I’m not too disappointed. I got held up a bit at the start as I was near the back, and we might have handed over a bit smoother a couple of times but I don’t think we could have got another lap in.
See me here and here. I’m even smiling in the first one, must have been near the start….

24 hour racing is hard work. And if you’d asked me at 3am Sunday morning what I thought of it I don’t think the reply would have been suitable for a family blog like this. Plenty of people said that it’s actually harder as a pair than doing it solo. Dragging yourself out of a sleeping bag at 3 in the morning to get on your bike in the rain isn’t nice, I suppose at least when your solo you just keep going, and you only have yourself to answer to!
But at 3:30 Sunday afternoon when we were stood on the podium the answer was all a bit different
Despite a horrendous series of 3 laps in the night we got third place with a lap and a bit to spare. And a big bag of swag
There are no photos as I was either racing or collapsing, but there were plenty of pro photographers about, like this one and this one, I think I look asleep in the saddle on that one! I look a bit more like I know what I am doing here though. The picture of the mass start here gives quite a good representation of the event. I was hovering around at the back telling everyone I was going to walk. Until everyone started jogging…
The madness will continue at Dusk till Dawn
